Weekend finds on Tumblr

Just some lovely images to soothe tired eyes, frazzled nerves and to aid in recovery from the week. Have a great lovely Sunday!

Some Ticing on my cake, please.

What a wonderful idea!

Ticings are edible images that can be applied to cakes, cookies, brownies and cupcakes. Users need only peel them from their paper backing and then press them onto a baked confection.

Ticing – You bake the canvas, we do the rest (what a nice slogan!)

Love…Unhappy Hipsters

Just discovered this really funny tumblr via Automatism’s weekly buffet. The photos are all from Dwell magazine and are given quite funny captions.

Still recovering from broken trust, neither wanted to be the first to try the eggs.

There’s not a lot on the 2 pages yet, but I’m looking forward to revisiting and having a chuckle.

He used to say things like all that glitters is not gold. And you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Money doesn’t grow on trees. Never trust a man a dog doesn’t like. Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. Beggers can’t be chooser. Where there’s a will there’s a way. A closed mouth catches no flies. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. The squeaky wheel gets the oil. An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch. A leopard cannot change its spots. The early bird gets the worm. Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. A watched pot never boils. Good things come to those who wait. Never trust a skinny cook. A rolling stone gathers no moss. Waste not want not. Cloudy mornings give way to clear evenings. Two heads are better than one. Make hay while the sun shines. Into every life, a little rain must fall. Finders keepers losers weepers. It goes without saying he was a good man.

The Dumpster “interventions”

In New York, the ugly green dumpsters are being going quietly glamorous. Finley, a 34 year old artist based in Rome, did these dumpster ‘interventions’ while visiting friends over the recent holidays. In the New York Times, she is quoted, “It’s a simple concept, beautifying an ugly object, and the Dumpsters bring together the three things I really care about: art, women and the environment.”"

Spending time beautifying a mundane, everyday, sometimes-ugly object takes inspiration. Doing this in the biting cold requires much dedication, good friends, and quality mittens.

I’d like to try papering the stinky green bins that the CCP uses for their waste. Now that would require some dedication! I’d rather brave the cold :)

What’s your 2010 resolution?

sfgirlbybay etsy

Victoria, over at the lovely SFGirlbybay blog asked her readers for their 2010 resolution. She’s going to pick the one she finds most inspiring and send them a ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ poster.

Here’s my entry:

* To stop blaming my adorable 10 month old baby for missing my deadlines, my grumpy days or house-in-total-chaos.
* Should that (blaming) happen, he gets a hundred kisses as compensation.

Given the house-in-total-chaos situation, I think I could well do with that poster.

The giveaway is open until Friday, January 8th, 2010.

Love…Once upon a tea time

onceI discovered ‘Once upon a tea time’ rather late, sometime December 2009. The blog has since become one of my daily decor fixes. I love the fresh home tours, the glimpses of the bloggers home and the lovely vignettes of tea-cups and teapots.

Today’s post, for example, asks you to love your home the way it is. For those of us who spend hours browsing through shelter magazines, blogs and websites taking in all that picture perfect, uncluttered examples of real or imaginary rooms, keeping up can be hard work. Just keeping my dressing table clear is a Herculean effort these days. With a 10 month old underfoot, toys have taken over the floor and child-proofing has made mince-meat of any porcelain, glassware or other delicates that we used to display.

There are not that many Indian decor bloggers around (compared to the rest of the decor clan), so when I find one I really like, I make it a point to let everybody else know!

If you don’t already have OUATT on your blogroll, add it right now!

Tell me a story

Via Tangled and True, I just discovered Storybird, a site that allows you to create your own stories, turn them into books with lovely illustrations and then, print it if you choose.

Talk about time suckers. Before I knew it, one click led to another, and another. My sleep deprived brain is already thinking of how I can turn those ridiculous goin’-nowhere stories that I conjure up for Baby M into these lovely books. Maybe this will motivate me to be a little more creative. Hey, I’m a writer, after all.

Do you have a story to tell?
