It’s today: World Busk at Literati, Calangute

If you are in Goa, join us at Literati Bookshop, Calangute (5.30 pm onwards) for our 3rd year at WorldBusk.

Inspired by the El Sistema movement in Venezuela (where over 3 million children now get music education in an effort to keep them out of trouble, provide them with a skill and teach them how to lead an empowered life), my husband and I started a charity in 2009 called ‘Child’s Play India Foundation’. Child’s Play teaches music to disadvantaged Indian children. We teach the violin and recorder to children at an NGO in Goa. Some of these children have successfully auditioned for violin and cello at Goa’s premier art institution Kala Academy. We hope to begin cello and brass lessons in Mumbai/Bangalore soon.

World Busk is an annual event where musicians worldwide busk (or play in public venues) to raise funds for UK music charity Musequality and the projects they support worldwide. Child’s Play is honoured to be one of Musequality’s supported projects.

Today, in the beautiful Literati bookshop (an old Goan house converted into a safe place for books), music will resonate through the old walls. There will be lots of children with violins (kids from our project + other children), singing, and even one of Goa's best known bands! And as with most of our busking events, there are sure to be some surprise performances as well. If you are in Goa, come! (Entry free)
