Connecting a laptop to the TV

For our upcoming festival, I’m trying to connect a laptop to our flat-screen LG TV. We’ve got a VGA cable that successfully transfers the laptop image to the telly. The only problem is that right in the centre of the TV screen, there is a gray band with ‘Check Signal Cable’ error written in white. The band stays throughout, no matter what you do.

Google tells me that this is a common problem and people world-wide are struggling with it. I haven’t found a solution to the problem yet and I need to sort this out by Friday evening for our first speaker.

Have you tried connecting a PC to your TV? Any ideas, tips or solutions to offer?

Maybe you need to change the input mode? From HDMI or whatever?
Should be on your remote for the TV.

Just a suggestion. Might not work.

I agree with DB. We connect ours with the cable too. But we need to change the input mode.

I've put it on PC mode, just like the manual says. No luck. Still get that annoying error msg which is really quite silly because you do get an image on the screen so I don't know why the TV isn't recognising the cable...
